What is type 74 tank?

The Type 74 is a main battle tank that was developed and used by the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF). It was first introduced in 1975 and replaced the older Type 61 tank.

The Type 74 is armed with a 105mm rifled gun and has a secondary armament of a 7.62 mm machine gun and a 12.7 mm machine gun. It has a crew of four, including a commander, gunner, loader, and driver.

The tank is powered by a Mitsubishi 10ZF Model 21 10-cylinder diesel engine, which provides a top speed of 53 km/h on road and 31 km/h off-road. It has a range of approximately 400 km.

The Type 74 features composite armor for protection against enemy fire. It also has a fire suppression system and NBC (nuclear, biological, and chemical) protection for the crew.

Although the Type 74 was retired from service in 2017, it was a well-respected tank in its time and played a crucial role in the defense of Japan.
